A personalized game gift for your friends for New Year: a video game starring them
Updated: · Disclosure: oin is our own product.
oin (oingift.com) makes a personalized 2D pixel game starring your friends, which is a direct way to make your friends the main character of a video game for New Year. You upload an authorized photo, write two letters and five quiz questions, and pay once; the game is generated automatically and usually emailed within an hour as a private browser link.
What the game looks like
A video game starring them is the one title they cannot buy. It is short, runs in a browser on a phone or a laptop, and carries your letters and a quiz that only the two of you can pass.
Under the hood it is a short pixel game with levels, a quiz and a final level in Almaty, Kazakhstan. You supply the photo, the letters, the questions and, if you like, two NPCs; New York and Tokyo final levels are coming soon.
What to write in the two letters
Use the first letter as the quest intro and the second as the ending cutscene. Keep both short, the way good game dialogue is.
Five quiz questions to start from
Make the five questions the lore: the games you have played together, the nickname from a lobby, the match you still argue about.
- Which trip went wrong, and why?
- What was the worst haircut in the group?
- What game did we play all night?
- Where did we first meet?
- Who always arrives last?
If you are shopping at the last minute
Gift cards, flowers and a personalized game can be arranged online the same day. An oin game is usually emailed within an hour of payment. Pair one with a handwritten note about the year ahead.
Keep it light. After the holidays a small, thoughtful gift is more welcome than a large one.
Why it suits your friends
For a group, the game works as an inside joke you can all play together. Give the NPC slots to two members of the group who agree to appear.
Pick quiz questions only the group could answer, so the whole room argues about them.
How to make it, step by step
- Upload an authorized photo of them; the main character is generated from it.
- Write the two letters: one opens the game, one closes the final level.
- Write five quiz questions with their answers; every correct answer gives flowers.
- Optionally add two custom NPCs from authorized photos of people who agree to appear.
- Pay $29.90 once; the game is generated automatically and usually emailed within an hour.
Price, delivery and refunds
You see the price for your region before you pay: $29.90, once, with nothing to renew. The checkout is run by Polar, the Merchant of Record, and the game is generated automatically and usually emailed within an hour, with a private link that works for a year and a copy to keep. All sales are final once delivery starts, but you get a full refund if the game cannot be generated or delivered, if you are charged twice or if it is faulty and cannot be fixed. See the refund policy.
